2016-09-25_cyanotype-workshop

Join Lara Morgan on Sunday, September 25th to make prints using one of the oldest photographic processes, the cyanotype! Lets make beautiful blue prints!

Participants will make photograms and prints from digital negatives (or from film if you are a large format shooter). We will cover the history of the process and practical application including selecting and coating paper, determining proper exposure, and trouble shooting to produce a finished print. We will make prints on an exposure unit and, weather permitting, in the sun.

Participants must provide an image of their choosing to produce a digital negative from. Images with less contrast work best as this is a fairly contrasty process. Files must be at least 300dpi at 10 inches on the longest side.

Book Structures for Printers with Jessica (of the Southern Letterpress)
May 29, 2016 from 11am – 5pm

2016-05-29_book-structures

This workshop taught by Jessica Peterson, of The Southern Letterpress, will focus on well-crafted but easy-to-do bookbinding structures that are good for printers who like making book editions, including the pamphlet, accordion, and drum leaf structures. Two of these structures allow you to have an image on a full-page spread without having to worry about pesky imposition or pagination (a book printer’s dream come true!). Participants will make a demonstration model of each structure, for reference to use in later work.
Jessica runs The Southern Letterpress at 3700 St. Claude in New Orleans, where she provides letterpress printing and design services for clients. She has a Master’s degree in book arts from The University of Alabama, Mississippi University for Women and Purchase College. Under the imprint Paper Souvenir, she produces edition artists books, which are collected in libraries around the country.
